Through yoga, consciousness is opened to the understanding inherent in the language of the body.  The intelligence of physical expression can inform consciousness of previously inaccessible notions.
When we understand that we are capable of more than we think, it becomes  possible to re-train the body’s experience of reality through the practice of yoga.  By working through the boundaries of emotional hurts, physical injuries and energetic blockages, we experience life with renewed vitality clarity, and purpose.

XYZ Ballroom Dancing -
Hello Dancers,
We are making an effort to include into our dancing program the new U of W Lab students arriving in a few weeks.  We are offering two weeks of classes as a bridge, followed by a regular 5-week long session in a new series of dances.  All sessions at XYZ Movement Center, Airport Center Rd in Friday Harbor.  Here's the detail:

MONDAY, March 19 & 26.  7 PM.  West Coast Swing.
TUESDAY, March 20 & 27.  7:15 PM.  Waltz.

Both of these will be taught to the level of students who turn out, with an eye toward continuing where we just left off in the beginning-level sessions that just ended.  Everyone is welcome to join in these nights to refresh past instruction and learn some new moves.  Beginners welcome to give these dances a try.  Casual & comfortable clothes, hard-soled shoes work best.  $8 per night/dancer.  Full one-hour classes.

5-week, one-hour Sessions starting

MONDAYs, April 2 through 30.  7 PM.   We'll get back to you on this...
TUESDAYs, April 3 through May 1.  7:15 PM.  Beginning East Coast Swing.

Around town, east coast swing is the hands down most versatile dance when it comes to dancing to live music.  Works with many genres of lively music and at varied tempos.  Joyous, youthful, ebullient, as athletic as you want to put into it, cool.  Not hard to learn.  $40 per person for the series.  Non-gripping-soled shoes strongly recommended.

Friday Night Practice Dances
Every Friday this month.  7 PM until at least 8...but continuing as long as the dancers still have the gas to boogie.  Mary-Brooke and I will be glad to coach you on lesson material, or just come to dance on a very good, spacious floor amongst friends.  Casual attire.  We'll spin' your favorite tune if you want to dance to it...bring it along. (has to pass the virus scan tho)...  By donation to cover the room rental, please.
Regards,
Mary-Brooke and Paul Barger

Wednesday -
Adult Hula with Alice - 6:45 to 7:45 PM
Cost:  $10/class  or $35/4 classes

Hula is a way of life in Hawaii, a celebration, a moving meditation, an expression of gratitude. Participants will experience hula as a dance of gratitude for nature, learning how basic hand and body movements express a tale of the Earth, Sea and Spirit. Classes are offered with cultural integrity, practicing Hawaiian chant or song, becoming aware of the sacred Huna principals and studying the kaona (spiritual meaning) of each hula.  Classes help to instill within students the true essence of the hula- a prayer for Mother Earth and her inhabitants.
Dancing the hula, one develops body strength, coordination and grace. Hula enhances the well-being of body, mind and spirit. Most classes focus on learning Auana (modern) hula, danced to beautiful Hawaiian melodies. Sometimes, Kahiko (ancient) hula is also taught.
.
Alice is a certified teacher with a MEd and has taught children and adult classes about dance, nature, art and community.  She has been a haumana of the hula with Kumu Hula (master teachers) Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett and Keala Ching since 2001.   She first studied hula and several other dance forms as a young child.  At the University of New Hampshire she studied modern dance and performed in the UNH and Synergy Dance Companies.  She has also taught Creative Movement for children and Zydeco partner dancing for adults.  She is a long-time Contra Dancer from New England. Currently she is becoming certified as a Yoga Calm instructor for children.  For her, dance is a universal language ofJoy.

THERAPEUTIC COLLAGE WORKSHOPS
with Deb Langhans...

“Inner Journey Collage”
Inner Journey Collage (IJC) is a fun, satisfying and therapeutic process that uses collage to help women access their inner wisdom and deepen understanding and acceptance of themselves and their world.

IJC entails three steps: creation of “6 x 9” collage cards from existing images, interactive “dialoging” with those images, and, as comfortable, confidential sharing of perspectives and wisdom gained. This healing adventure ignites the unconscious mind, intuition, and imagination and enables empowering insights.

Endless card types can be created. Some favorites include: “Mentors,” “Vision,” “Seasons,” “Blessings,” “Life Lessons,” “Affirmations,” etc. To increase personal choice and freedom, women begin IJC by exploring their numerous “Selves” through “Identity” cards.  Dialoging with each card allows its special lessons to be revealed.

After an introductory workshop is completed, “IJCollagers” can continue their inner work during monthly “IJC Circles.” (Please read below for more description.)

Customized workshops can also be scheduled to explore or celebrate life passages and any meaningful occasion--birthdays, “coming of age,” graduations, weddings, retirements... These unique gatherings offer a pleasurable way to strengthen closeness and understanding between loved ones and colleagues.

Inner Journey Collage:
*encourages self discovery that expands choice & personal freedom
*enables clarity & perspective perhaps never before realized
*provides a sometimes neglected outlet for creative expression, & the opportunity to complete beautiful, unique
“soulprints” for continued inspiration & guidance
*allows for sharing the creative & self discovery process with other women in a relaxed, safe, & nurturing environment

No artistic talent or experience is required.
All materials are provided.

There are 4-8 slots per workshop/circle, so early registration is recommended to ensure availability.

To learn more about IJC, register for current offerings, &/or schedule your own theme workshop, please contact Deb @ 378-8907 or bethechange5@rockisland.com
                                      .....
"Introductory  Inner Journey Collage Workshops"
IJC begins here. These workshops introduce the terms and concepts used in the Inner Journey Collage creation and dialoging process. Additional fun and thought provoking exercises help to “prime the creative pump.” Participants create an “Identity” card and learn how to dialog with chosen images in order to gain insight into the benefits, limitations, and lessons that particular "Self" offers.

SUNDAY(s), 1:00--5:00 p.m. Please see "What's New" tab for current workshop dates.

Fee: $50 per person. Each 4 hour workshop includes: IJC notebook and additional handouts, all collage materials, "dialoging" coaching, and light refreshment. (4-8 slots available per workshop; early registration recommended.)

To begin the IJC process and register for the next introductory workshop, please contact Deb Langhans: 378-8907; bethechange5@rockisland.com

"IJC Circles"
are scheduled monthly for all who have completed an introductory workshop and wish to continue their inner work in the supportive presence of other women. Here "IJCollagers" can continue to explore numerous Selves in order to create fuller, freer and more balanced lives. As stated above, they can also create numerous other cards. Interactive dialoging is done with all cards in order to learn what wisdom and lessons each holds.

With terms and concepts already learned, these ongoing circles allow more time for collage creation, personal reflection, dialoging, and meaningful group interaction.

SUNDAY(S), 1:00--5:00 p.m.
Please see "What's New" tab for 2012 offerings.

Fee: When IJCollagers commit to a series of at least 4 circles, they can enjoy the discounted series price--$160 (Series = four 4 circles @ $40 each)
Those not able or wishing to commit to a series can pay by individual circle @ $45 each.

Circles include: Handouts, all collage materials, “dialoging” coaching & light refreshment. 4-8 slots available per circle; early registration recommended.

For questions &/or registration, please contact: Deb Langhans: 378-8907; bethechange5@rockisland.com

Awaken your inner wisdom.
Explore, embrace & empower your many Selves.
Enjoy a fuller & more balanced life through
